While it’s not possible to cover all areas in a day, we can focus on your preferences and visit special destinations such as: 

Marievale Bird Sanctuary, Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve, Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens, Delta Park, and Melville Koppies. 

On this birding-focused tour, we explore the hilly Midlands and the mountainous regions of the KwaZulu-Natal province, which is abundant in endemic and specials, wildlife species and scenic beauty. Our primary destination is the greater region of the Sani Pass, in the Drakensberg mountain range, which forms part of the spectacular Maloti-uKhahlamba Park, a World Heritage Site.

The tour covers a wide altitudinal range from near sea level to 2,900 metres and, therefore, many varied habitats supporting a wide variety of species.

Our sightings goal is 200+ bird species in summer and 180+ in winter, and we hope to see upwards of  20 mammal species. Many reptiles, amphibians and butterflies can also be found, as well as numerous orchid and protea species.

On this moderately-paced, birding-focused safari, we expect to see around 320 species and 5 endemics as we explore several abundant and premier game reserves in the Zululand and Maputaland (Elephant Coast) region of the KwaZulu-Natal province. Each reserve is unique in its attributes, landscapes and the experiences it offers.  

The region is also a large mammal playground for leopard, African wild dog, black rhino, and others. We hope to see the Big 5 and upwards of 30 species, while an array of reptiles, amphibians and butterflies can also be found across the varied habitats.  

This wildlife tour primarily focuses on mammals, with birds and other species a secondary focus.
