South African based operator, Sustain Safaris, offers some of the most focused mammal tours I have ever seen. I am a keen birder too, but mammals were my main focus for this trip. I was amazed that I had a personal tour with owner-operator, Michael Wright, who is an incredible birder and mammal expert. We stayed in many of the best value lodges in South Africa, and enjoyed excellent cuisines. Michael is also superb with logistics, and is extremely helpful in this regard. It was one the most incredible tours I have ever taken.

My fiancé and I took a 2-week birding tour with Sustain Safaris from Cape Town to Bloemfontein and we saw 303 species of birds and saw all but one of our target endemic species (only missed it because of the weather), which is an incredible feat! We had an excellent 26-day trip for a couple over in South Africa, travelling from Johannesburg to Cape Town, 6239 km with the very experienced guide Michael Wright. Along the way we attended more than 10 National Parks, and saw 504 bird species and 68 mammalian species in total. The trip was very nice and comfortable.
