Tour Insight

This tour from Cape Town to the southern tip of Africa – Cape Agulhas – focuses on various geographic areas and habitats that host abundant species, including many coastal and seashore birds.

Together, we discover the diverse natural beauty of the Overberg region, travel along the Cape south coast from Paardevlei in the west to Cape Agulhas in the east and explore the Kogelberg mountains and the area from Hermanus to Gansbaai.

Our goal is to spot 220+ bird species in the summer and 170+ in winter, many of which are resident endemics and specials. Additionally, we aim to see over 20 mammal species, including an array of reptiles, amphibians, butterflies, and numerous beautiful orchid and protea species.

Tour Overview

Comfortable private lodges and country cottages. Luxury accommodation can be arranged at your request (additional cost).

The Mediterranean climate of this region is warm and temperate, with more rain in the winter than in summer. The temperature averages 16.5°C (61.7°F), while rainfall averages around 610 mm per year. Summers are warm, dry, and mostly clear; winters are cool, wet and partly cloudy, and it’s windy year-round. The temperature varies from 8°C (46.47°F) in July to 25°C (77°F) in January and is rarely below 4°C (39.2°F) or above 29°C (84.2°F).

Based on the tourism score, the best time of year to visit Hermanus for warm-weather activities is from late November to late March. The driest month is January, with the most rain falling in July. The month with the highest relative humidity is August (78%), and the lowest is December (68%).

Fynbos, thicket, lowland Afrotemperate forest, gardens, wetlands and riverine areas, estuaries, sandy beaches and rocky shores. These host numerous regional endemics, threatened and endangered bird and mammal species, as well as great floral diversity that includes various orchids and proteas. Each destination offers extraordinary scenery, providing you with unparalleled photographic opportunities.
